It is already tough enough for creatives!

So how do we beat the robots?

Do we need to live beside this latest technology jump regardless but make sure we have the laws needed in place, that stop it fully taking over our lives and planet?

Makes sense to me. Never let anything run riot from first principals.

As a writer, I've thought long and hard about this monster in the making and how we contain it?

AI should compliment who we are and what we do, need and want right?

AI doesn't have agency, so is this all a storm in a tea cup?

Maybe?

I always come to the same conclusion when I think about AI.

One, we need failsafes and two, good 'fecking luck' to AI trying to be me! Even I don't know what I'm going to write until I do! My style of writing is 'talking to you', real, raw and very personal, I can't see it doing the same. However, research and article writing might suffer more but will we buy it into it?

I hope not.

I just don't think the majority of the educated population are that stupid!

Many of my Gen X friends really see it for what it is. Don't forget we weren't born with Ipads in our hands but we have been there for every techno leap known to man and thrived. Our generation understands the pro's and cons. We also know without a doubt that we had better childhoods because we were free of the microchip!

I can absolutely tell what is AI written and what's not can you? It's not that sophisticated I feel. Also there's often an American language overtone to most of its written work and it absolutely stinks because it is perfect! Humans don't generally want perfect and we do expect the odd typo, spelling or gramma mistake. I know some teachers may have a melt down over that statement but leave it be, take a minute!

Sometimes we do want to be lazy and will happily take a shortcut if there is one! Thats the human element I suppose.

Learning should never be a shortcut!

Also, to err is to be human, no?

I guess my writing is 80% there and thats enough for most people, I don't have an agent, editor or publishing house behind me. My readers get me, my story and when thats no longer required I will burn my laptop!

We can all fill in the blanks even if it's a little irritating at times.

As readers we love to buy into 'real life' stories and can generally tell when it's a pile of BS, highly edited or enhanced. I understand there are more astute folks out there than we wish to believe there are. Still there are those that won't battle and rather prefer to live their eyes wide shut! We will always have to make up for the ignorant and stupid I guess, show them the dangers before they smack them in the face!

Humans are wonderfully flawed, robots aren't. Our world isn't perfect but it's imperfections are human made. Let's keep it that way eh!

Okay, so AI apparently will continue learning from us mere mortals and learn to be 'more human' in the process but without humans behind them, guiding, operating and feeding them, they won't be 100% like us! Mainly because human's have characters that are built from wild cells at birth and not from a microchip! We are also enormously complex emotional beings.

What we humans don't need to function is a data centre! We can read, write, love, hate and naturally do all the things we are asking robots and AI data centres to do? Where does that leave us?

Obsolete?

We can all see how automation can be of some benefit in controlled situations such as the disabled or ageing home. More accuracy during operations. Editing and help with learning difficulties. The list where it can assist, without hugely affecting most of the population is pretty endless. I'm sure you can add in something helpful here?

Even I can't deny that with a population decline we leave ourselves wide open to being cared for by robots in just a few decades.

Of course Hollywood movies have invented the rise of the evil robot already via CGI! Surely those robots could gain human traits and wish to take over the world? I guess if we can dream it, it may indeed be possible many decades down the line, after a fashion. Or have we just gone a bit GAGA here?

What we are actually entering is the uncomfortable phase of certain jobs being automated for speed and economy, rather than them stealing our planet. Still, the cost to us financially and to our resources, already under stress is immense. That is not being discussed at the top enough.

Balance it seems, appears to go out of the window when billionaires just take what they want to drive us forward, into a world we don't necessarily want or need. Why put humans out of work with no plan b?

Anyone know what plan b is yet?

Thought not.

Governments, are always fighting fire but obviously need to take any and all early threats to human life seriously now, to ensure that we remain in charge of our world! Our private information remains private, that children and young adults are not further exploited and that we remain in work that pays us because we simply need to pay our bills.

We've all heard the horror stories!

Yes obviously we need to tidy processes up a bit, look at how much we will save and how we make certain processes cheaper without making everyone redundant! I guess, just like the horror that is automated customer services, we will get angry when we can't speak to a human! I also assume we will be even angrier when we don't have the ability to earn and also to add insult to injury, find our creative outlets have diminished to nought.

A world with humans having zero function?

God no!

Billionaires keeping everything for themselves, so that once they've entirely ruined the world, they can sit in a bunker counting the money made which by then won't have any value?

This is in motion already!

Just a few corrupt billionaires owning the planet and beyond?

Yes corrupt. It's very rare that that sort of money is earned by being good, kind and or honest.

Greed wins.

Is that the message we are making here? That it's acceptable for the world to fail on a monumental scale, just so 3000 ish billionaires can have it all between them?

Yes, it's already happening.

Just as humans decided to settle somewhere and claim the land from the indigenous, the billionaires are keeping all the money, minerals and lord only knows what else needed for the future, to themselves. Worse still, we are taxed obscenely whilst there's always a rich get out clause!

Like I said in my last blog, humans need a human rights planetary constitution that protects what we can't live without.

We must not let this 'billionaires take over the world' thing happen, it's that simple. AI gives them an extra layer of control over the human population doesn't it? So scary!

I'm sure we will evolve to live beside this latest upgrade to human life, but let's face it, the whole thing is super unpalatable, dangerous even at the moment, isn't it?

We certainly do not want to force our planet into further decline, especially as we need the water being wasted by the data centres in disgusting amounts! We need that water for ourselves, just for survival. So, our governments must ensure that particular resource is protected now and not later when it's a critical problem. Too late is too late!

All technology upgrades are initially sold on being good for us and good for the planet. Of course we are not that stupid and have realised pretty quickly, that these AI data centres are too thirsty in too many ways and in that way they do threaten our very existence. I again refer to my previous blog and the need for our human rights to be upgraded too! We need the basics protected no matter what, water, heat, cool, homes, food, education, health and policing as standard rights and anything that may affect that needs to be stopped in its tracks.

As it stands, water and food will be in short supply very soon if we don't make climate change and the onslaught of AI the first thing on the agenda!

Of course no one likes an 'industrial revolution leap', they are never comfortable and history always reminds just how tough change is, but we do adapt as long as we put the safety and welfare of humans first.

Unchecked, billionaires and AI could certainly ruin lives!

What happens when humans stop thinking for themselves?

When everything is controlled?

When the basics we need to live are in the hands of the unscrupulous?

For now, the best thing we can do, is protest to our local governments and insist on those much needed checks and balances before it's too late.

We simply must protect our future.
